Nutella Soup Dumplings Are All the Rage in New York Right Now

We're big fans of soup dumplings here at That's Shanghai but we might have to draw the line at New York's latest food craze... Nutella soup dumplings. Yep, you read correctly, yet another US eatery has decided to co-opt a popular Chinese dish and give it a western twist.

Located in Queens, Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao, and its spinoff restaurant The Bao, are apparently all the rage in New York due to their decadent dessert dumplings, Secret NYC reports. Both restaurants are popular for their traditional xiao long bao but they decided to get creative by adding a sweet variation to the menu.

Known as Nutella XLB, the dumplings are filled with Nutella and bits of banana. And though they don't actually have a soup filling, once the Nutella is warmed it transforms into gooey goodness that kind of resembles soup?
These dumplings were first dreamed up at Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao in Queens and later added to The Bao’s menu. However, rumor has it that the Nutella XLB was temporarily taken off The Bao’s menu due to quality concerns.

Don't worry Nutella lovers, you can once again sample these sweet dumplings at both restaurants. You'll just have to travel to New York to do so. As for us, we'll just stick to the xiao long bao in Shanghai.
